We’ve got some of the best wine in the world right here on our doorstep. If you’re visiting from out of town and want to know our favourite way to visit the vineyards - you’re in the right place.
We highly recommend Altitude Tours for a range of amazing tours, but this wine tour got the award for “World’s Best Wine Tour 2021” and we think it’s something pretty special.
Queenstown Wine Sampler Tour
10am- 3pm
This is a wine experience with guides who really know their stuff about wine and the local area.
The tour starts by picking you up from Driftaway Queenstown before heading to the famous Gibbston Valley wine cave, then you’ll head over to Kinross for another tasting before you have some relax and enjoy and delicious lunch (Additional Cost) After lunch you’ll continue your trip onto the amazing family-owned vineyard - Mt Rosa. For your last stop, its a mystery… the guide will pick what winery they think will work best for the tour and people’s tastes!
ADULT - NZD $189 CHILD (2-17YRS) - NZD $119
If you’re wanting to tour the vineyards yourself or if a tour is not up your alley, then here are 3 of our personal favourite wineries we love visiting ourselves.
Mt Rosa
Mt Rosa is so much more than just a winery, it has a beautiful grassroots story about how Otago Sheep Farmers came into the wine industry and have since never left, they still live on site to this day. This proudly family-owned, and operated winery may be off the beaten track but that’s no reason not to visit and if you’re looking for a day out in Gibbston Valley this is our top pick. Mt Rosa also follows the Sustainable Wine Growing NZ fundamentals which we love. Guy and Ann are still at the Winery daily and love to stop and chat with their guests and share their wine.
Kinross Winery & Cellar Door
Kinross is a unique experience because unlike other wineries in the area, Kinross provides wine from a range of different winemakers in the region. Coal Pit, Hawkshead, Valli and Wild Irishman can all be found at Kinross. The tours include stories of this amazing wine region and the staff are super knowledgeable.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are offered at Kinross too making it a great place to be for a few hours - or a whole day! They also have a range of tours from Central Otago Wine Tasting to Gourmet tasting & lunch experiences!
Akarua Wines
Akarua is a fan favourite with locals as it is the closest to Queenstown and is a great place to spend time with friends and family. If you are travelling with a group who all have different pallets Akarua works well as you can choose up to five wines to make your personalised tasting experience. If you have no idea where to start, they do offer a tasting guided by one of their team too. Stop by here to enjoy some of the most incredible food Queenstown has on offer.
