Wanaka
Wānaka is the #1-day trip location from Queenstown. Great food and some amazing walks await your visit. Wānaka is one of the most beautiful places to explore in NZ, with clear waters, established trees and some well loved eateries and pubs. Wānaka makes a great day out for the whole family. Make sure you get a photo of the famous Wanaka tree too!

Glenorchy
Glenorchy is a perfect day trip location! from the picturesque drive along Lake Whakatipu to the view when you get there - there are lots of swimming spots along the drive to stop at and scenic locations to snap some memorable holiday photos too! Glenorchy is a charming small town with a friendly local pub and some of the most sensational scenery you’ll come across - maybe you’ve already seen some of it as it’s a popular location for filming movies! Head to the petting zoo or go jet boating along the dart river, this place truly has something for everyone.

Te Anau
Most popular for its lake and a great place for a coffee break on your way to Milford Sound, Te Anau is close to our hearts here at Driftaway Queenstown with our owners coming from there before moving to Queenstown. We’d recommend the glow worm cave tour with a trip across the lake or catch a helicopter to go have a look at Milford/ Doubtful Sound and save yourself the drive. Locals tip: Pop into Sandfly Cafe, they do great food and coffee!

Cardrona
Cardrona is on your way to Wānaka, and it may be small but it's bursting with personality. Imagine it's summer and you’re taking a spontaneous afternoon road trip, possible activities include - Mountain Carting, Cadrona Distillery or the Cardrona Hotel for a bite to eat? obviously get an iconic photo too. Let’s do the same but it's winter, snowy mountains surround you. Head to the Cardrona Distillery or up to Cardrona for some skiing/snowboarding.

Cromwell
Did someone say cherry picking and real fruit ice creams? Cromwell is the place to be in summer. It’s a great spot for swimming, fishing, boating and much more. You’ll also find Highland’s Motorsport Park, which is fun for the whole family. Grab a real fruit ice cream on the way out to the inflatable water park in summer which is incredibly popular, especially with the kids.
