Queenstown Family Friendly Restaurants
If it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner having a family-friendly place is a lifesaver especially when everyone's hungry after a day up the hill or wandering around town. Here are our tried and trusted family friendly places to grab a bite to eat. These are suited to both breakfast and dinner so you’re covered if you need to feed hungry mouths at the last minute!
Dine In
The Boatshed Cafe – Breakfast
Just a stone’s throw away from us here at Driftaway Queenstown, the Boatshed is our team’s personal favourite. Located right on the lake looking at the Remarkables, this is just a 5 minute walk from us but if you’re driving on your way into town there are always plenty of parks available too.
Joes Garage - Breakfast/Brunch
We are lucky enough to have two of these in the Queenstown lakes area, if you want to stay a bit closer to us here at Driftaway though, we’ve got one just down the road in Five Mile Shopping Centre. Joes Garage is very well known across New Zealand for having a great menu and atmosphere. There is plenty of space at their Frankton location so usually finding a table isn't an issue! They also have a great kid’s menu and some colouring pencils and paper to keep everyone busy too.
Flame - Lunch/Dinner
If your family is wanting to try a local favourite in Queenstown, then Flame is the go-to. Flame is a meat-based restaurant and legend has it that they quite possibly cook the best steak in Queenstown. Try it for yourself, make sure you give them a call to book.
Fork and Tap - Dinner
If you’re looking at heading to Arrowtown for the day then the Fork and Tap is our pick for a great family restaurant to visit. They have a dedicated kid’s menu & playground for the little people and It’s a great spot to spend a sunny afternoon. You’ll often find live music here and a great atmosphere any day of the week.
Grab & Go
If you’re wanting to grab a bite to eat and sit by the waterfront or take your food on the road there are a few places you’ve got to try. You can eat in at these places too but we reckon they’re better enjoyed with a great view.
Devil Burger - Dinner
As much as getting a famous Ferg Burger is great, waiting in the hour-long line isn’t always the easiest with little ones. Devil Burger is a great alternative, the burger quality is just as amazing as Ferg Burger but it’s just not as well known. We love phoning ahead and collecting on our way through town. These guys also have a dedicated kid’s menu.
Balls and Bangles - Lunch
Balls and Bangles have everything from plain bagels with butter and Jam to fried chicken burger bagels - I know. It doesn’t stop there though, they also have some of the most amazing doughnuts and we can guarantee these will be a hit with the kids!
Fat Badgers - Dinner
Who doesn't love a delicious pizza and curly fries?! A bustling little spot in the CBD but a must-visit with the family. Great-sized portions and tasty food and drink for everyone to enjoy.
We hope you enjoyed our favourite places to eat with the family! If you try any of these spots or have something to add, let us know!
