Our Favourite Queenstown Bike Trails
From leisurely family rides, to HOLD ON TO YOU SEATS down hill trails, Queenstown has it all.
We have stunning scenery that we love to show off and what better way to see it than cruising at your own pace through our beautiful alpine landscapes. Check out these 5 options recommended by our team!
Queenstown Bike Park
Lets begin with what I would say is one of the most well known tails in Queenstown, maybe even the whole of New Zealand. The Queenstown Bike Park has over 30km of down hill trails weaving their way down a 450m vertical decent. The trails range from beginner/intermediate to advanced so don’t be afraid to give it a go! Your bike can be connected to the gondola for a relaxed ride to the top 6 months of the year or if you’re feeling fit you can use pedal power up to the top any time of the year.
Conveniently located right in town, the gondolas are not hard to spot, ride on over and check it out!
Frankton Track & Kelvin Peninsula Trail
Toning things down just a little, here we have a very leisurely ride that you can start right from Driftaways door step. Head down to the Kawarau Falls Bridge past the Hilton Hotel. Within 2 or 3 hours you can enjoy a relatively flat and relaxing ride. A great trail to take the whole family on with food/coffee stops at the Hilton or the Queenstown golf club. Keep an eye out for walkers as the trail is open to everyone!
Arrow River Bridges Trail
Another more leisurely trail and something really special! You’ll find it hard to keep your eyes on the trail with this one. (Don’t forget your camera). Every bend has a hidden gem waiting for you to discover. The trail hugs the banks of the stunning Arrow river with 6 bridge crossings that allow you to fully take in the beauty of the rushing water.
The trails almost 14km, and will take you to the historic Kawarau Suspension Bridge where you can stop for a coffee toilet break and quick bungy jump before you head home
Jacks Point Trail
Keen to get off the beaten track?
This trail will take you from Kelvin Hights to Jacks Point and is not for the faint of heart! Parts of the trail are steep with sharp turns and can be narrow in some sections.
If 7km one way is enough for you there are several companies that offer transport back to Queentown so sit back and enjoy a coffee or beer at the Jack's Point Clubhouse Restaurant and Bar knowing that you won't be using pedal power to get home. There’s something special about riding with no other people around and this trail can guarantee some ‘you’ time in a very special place.
Wineries by Bike
This one is coming from my love of bike riding AND wine. Whoever combined the 2 is a genius.
We all know Queenstown is famous for its wineries, which means we also have an abundance of biking wine tours. Whether you want to take a tour with a group of wine enthusiasts or pedal power your way around our stunning vineyards solo, it’s doable and it’s a great time. The Gibbston wine region is connected by gravel bike tracks that allow you to explore the area safely.
There are so many more beautiful bike trails around Queenstown and central so check out the Queenstown Trail to find more information. It’s such an amazing way to get around and check out our beautiful countryside!
